AbstractO objetivo deste projeto é realizar experimentos com fenõmenos ondulatOrios que ocorrem em plasmas. O interesse maior esta no estudo das ondas de Langmuir e whistlers devido às suas relaçOes com fenõmenos comuns a plasmas espaciais e a plasmas de laboratOrio. Os novos conceitos de aceleraçao de partículas utilizando ondas eletromagnéticas, o surgimento das auroras nas regiOes polares e a precipitação de partículas carregadas para atmosfera, através das anomalias do campo magnético terrestre são exemplos de fenõmenos onde estas ondas desempenham um papel importante. Neste projeto pretendemos estudar a propagação destas ondas em uma maquina de plasma quieseente, que produz plasma com características muito semelhantes às do plasma ionosférico, isto é, baixa densidade e temperatura. O projeto farã parte das atividades da área de física de plasma básica do LAP, contará com a colaboração dos Departa mentos de Aeronomia e Geofísica Espacial do INPE e com o apoio do LaboratOricT) de Physique des Gaz et des Plasmas da Université de Paris-Sud, na França. ABSTRACT: The objective of this project is to perform experiments with wave phenomena on plasmas. Particular attention will be given to Langmuir and whistler waves due to its relations with severalphenomena occuring ou space and laboratory plasmas. The new conecpts of particle acceleration with eletromagnetic waves, the auroral phenomena ou the polar regions and the charged particle precipitation to the atmosphere through anomalies of the earth magnetic field are examples where these waves have an important role. In this project we intend to study the propagation of these waves in a quiessent plasma machine. This machine is able to produce a plasma with density and temperature with values similar to what is met in the ionospher. This project will be a part of the activities of the basic plasma group of the INPE's AssociatedPlasma Laboratory (LAP). It will have the collaboration of the departments of Aeronomy and Geophysics also from INPE, and the collaboration of the Plasma and Gas Physics Laboratory from University of Paris South, in France.
